On Friday the 5th of February, 2016, The SENDA prevents San Antonio program, certified Terquim S.A. after the joint work between the “Communitarian Development Direction” (DIDECO, after its Spanish name) from the San Antonio City Hall and the company. At the event, that took place at Terquim facilities, they officially launched a preventive Drugs and Alcohol Policy, encircled in the “Working with a quality of life program” executed by SENDA. In addition, a certification plaque was given to the company, indicating their initial prevention level. “We want to improve the quality of life of the employees not only in the biological aspects but also in the psychosocial. The company has made a good and hard work forming a preventive team, fulfilling every step required in the process and at this stage they are certified at an initial level.”, explained Maria Loreto González, The SENDA prevents San Antonio DIDECO program coordinator. They started working on the project on 2014 and during 2015 they officially elaborated their company policy, with the objective of preventing the Drugs and Alcohol consumption, with the advice of the communal SENDA prevents. “This is one step further into our constant taking care of our workers policy and of all of our collaborators at a national level; we wanted to go one step further because, undoubtedly, this policy improves the quality of life and involves their families too”, said René Díaz, TERQUIM S.A general manager. Through a coordinating preventive team, formed by representatives of different areas of the company, they managed to come up with a policy and action plan document to strengthen the preventive culture within the company; actions that benefit both health and wellbeing of the employees and their families, and the productivity and quality of their life as workers. “I think the prevention of drugs and alcohol consumption is an important issue. This is a nice experience being given at the company. Very few companies work with these kinds of initiatives and policies and today we are receiving this recognition”, commented Juan Pablo Velasquez, TERQUIM S.A Maintenance assistant and president of the joint committee. With the conclusion of this stage, the action plan will be implemented to, subsequently, being evaluated so that they can define the quality of life they have with the future intention of continuing and being awarded the intermedium or advanced level of certification. Said actions indicate and prove that the companies that apply this program have managed to stablish a preventive culture and in the long term, they can continue working the subject on their own.
